July 14th, Ocala Fl.

July 14th, Ocala Fl. Our next stop after Lakeland was a few hours north in Ocala Fl to visit our friends from Massachusetts, Dianne and Mike Nagy.  Diane and Mike had just moved from Charlton, Ma to Ocala in the past three months.  They settled in a new home in a development called the On Top of the World.   It was a good chance to see up close how new homes are built in Florida.  I was very impressed with the cement block construction and energy efficiency of the homes in the hot summer weather.  After a nice dinner at home, Dianne and Mike took us on their golf cart to the community center to listen to a outdoor band concert.  And yes Elaine and I did get up and dance to one of the songs.  A very nice visit with friends, and our third chance to see and experience living in a planned community. Mike and Dianne Nagy in their kitchen To my surprise the rv fit in Mike's driveway! We took the golf cart to the dance at the community center. ...

July 12th &13th Lakeland, Fl.

July 12th &13th Lakeland, Fl. Spent the morning of the 12th at Nokomis State Beach for one last swim of the trip.  This beach has to be one of the best we had visited.  We got their early and there was a fitness class going on at the beach.  Oh well!  Early afternoon we headed north east for Lakeland Fl to visit our long time friends Joan and Frank Laico.  We have known Frank and Joan since the early 70's when we did summer theatre together.  I actually met Elaine one evening after shortly getting out of the Navy thanks to Frank arranging a group get together.  Frank and Joan have a house on a golf course and have been in Florida for the past dozen years.  We were only going to spend one night at their house, but the AC on the RV acted up again and we spent two nights there so that a mechanic that Frank uses could look over the system.  We had a very nice dinner out on the second night at a local Thai restaurant. Here is the fitness c...

July 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th Osprey Fl

Image
July 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th Osprey Fl We spent the next four nights at Oscar Scherer state Park.  A very nice and large state park with spacious sites.  It reminded us a little of Tomoka State Park near Ormond.  The vegetation was very thick and tropical. On sunday July 8th we took a quick tour of the coast down to Fort Myers and visited the address of an old family friend of Elaine's, Dick Galasso.  Dick always raved about his winter home in florida.  During our self guided tour, our chassis air conditioning went out.  So on Monday we multitasked.  We spent the morning at the Ringling Museum in Saratoga.  This museum was amazing.  It really is about 5 museums on one campus.  Four museums about the Ringling Circus and one museum which is a great art gallery.  Over lunch on the Ringling campus I did some phone searching and contacted a small repair shop who agreed to look at the rv air conditioner.  So mid afternoon I dropped Ela...

July 7th, Mike and Cynthia Pugliese in University Park  near Sarasota Fl We woke up Saturday morning July 7th to some wonderful news.  Our son Matt became engaged to his lovely girlfriend Kim.  They were on a vacation trip in Mexico.  We were basking in glow of this wonderful news and were getting ready to head to Elaine's cousin Cynthia's and Mike's home when I realized that there are several University Park's in Florida.  Needless to say we packed up quickly and headed to the correct University park 3 hours northwest near Sarasota. We had a very nice visit with them.  They also had invited Elaine's other cousin Mary Lou and husband Bill; and Mikes brother Anthony and his wife Carol.  Everyone was very understanding as we arrived 3 hours late and spent till midnight talking about life and family. We slept over in their guest suite.  It was very comfortable after five weeks in the rv. Elaine and I talking with Matt and Kim about their enga...
