June 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, Tomoka State Park, Ormond Beach,  Fl  Our next stop after Skidaway and Savannah was Tomoka State Park located just a few miles north of Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach.  The park is located on the mainland so you have to travel south a few miles and then north again on the barrier island to get to a beach where we could park the rv.  The beach was great and the water was warm.  We were able to park the rv right at the edge of the beach.  We were there 4 nights and 3 full days.  We spent two of the days at the beach and shopping and visiting a museum on a rainy day. On Saturday we spent 4 hours at the beach, showered in the rv at the beach and then went to the Daytona Speedway for a 1.5 hour guided tour. Downtown Daytona has a great chocolate factory where I stocked up on some dark chocolate treats.  We also went on a shopping hunt for a new car radio for the rv.  Found a great buy in Walmart(my 2018 new best store...

June 17th, 18th, & 19th Savannah, Ga Skidaway Island State Park Headed out for Skidway from Myrtle Beach heading down route 17.  Passed numerous rv parks, beach stores south of the Myrtle Beach State park.  Arrived at Skidaway Island State Park around 5pm.  Skidaway is about 20 minutes southeast of Savannah Georgia.  We spent the next day, June 18th touring downtown Savannah and the day after that, June 19th, at Tybee Island Beach.  The water again was like bath water.  We watched numerous container ships going in and out of the entrance to the port.  Savannah is the 2nd largest port on the east coast.  "Life is like a box of chocolates"  Chippewa Square:This is the spot where Forest Gump sat on the park bench and waited for the bus.  The park bench is now in the visitor center museum.  They have 22 squares in downtown Savannah and we saw them all.  We parked at the visitor center(rv friendly) and took a trolley tour to...

June 15th & 16th Myrtle Beach South Carolina

Image
June 15th & 16th Myrtle Beach South Carolina We headed south on Route 17 on the morning of the the 17th!  We had decided to change our destination to Myrtle Beach versus an inland site called Little Pee Dee.  That turned out to be a good decision as the Myrtle Beach State park was a great place to camp.  It was quite populated but we got a nice site and had good privacy.  The beach was a short walk from the campsite.  On the beach was a great loing fishing pier. Here are Elaine and I on the a big seat on the fishing pier. A view south from the fishing pier . A view north from the fishing pier looking towards the city of Myrtle Beach. Saw this gem in the gift shop of the fishing pier.  Of course you have to walk through the gift shop to get out on the fishing pier. So we were sitting in our rv the first night and heard a loud thump on the roof.  It was a small dead branch that had fallen.  the next morning I climbed ...

June 13th & 14th Cedar Point North Carolina

Image
June 13th & 14th Cedar Point North Carolina Took the ferry from Ocracoke to Cedar Island.  From there we traveled south to Morehead City.  At Morehead city we stopped at a verizon store and spent the next hour getting Elaine a replacement cell phone. The smallest phone that was as close to her Motorola Droid was an iPhone SE, so Elaine reluctantly joined the Apple community. After Moorehead City it was a short drive to our campspot south at Cedar Point.  This was a very nice campground and we had an excellent spot with electricity. This big guy hitched a ride on our windshield on our way to Morehead City.  Yes some of the bugs are big down here! Here is our campsite at Cedar Point.  Lots of room to spread out and the bugs were not as present so we did not put up the screen tent.  Another view to the right of our campsite showing the spaciousness of the layout.                    ...

June 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th Ocracoke Island National Parks Campground

June 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th Ocracoke Island National Parks Campground Leaving Two Rivers we headed south on 158 to the Outer Banks, traveling through Kitty Hawk, and then the route 12 ending at Cape Hatteras and the ferry to Ocracoke. The ferry is free from Cape Hatteras to Ocracoke, evern for RV's.  We had started coming to Ocracoke back around 2000.  It is a gem of a campground which is adjacent to the Ocracoke beaches.  No electric hookups, but the breeze of the ocean was constant and refreshing. And an added bonus was the mosquitos were non existent which was a pleasant surprise.  On the first full day there we got our bikes out and biked 5 miles into the town of Ocracoke. We re-acquainted ourselves with all the great craft shops and ice cream parlors!. On the next two days we spent the first half of the day at the beach and the later half of the day in town at Ocracoke.  We left Ocracoke on the morning of the 13th on the south end of the island...

June 7th, 8th, Two Rivers Campground Chesapeake VA

Image
We left Assateague on June 7th and traveled south into Virginia.  We crossed the the Chesapeake Bay via Elaine's favorite(not) crossing:  the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. A 14 mile wonder of elevated highway and two tunnels that span the opening to the Chesapeake Bay.  We landed after a short drive south of Virginia Beach and Norfolk at the Northwest River Campground.  This is a very nice campground owned by the city of Chesapeake.  It had electric hookups and bathrooms with showers for those who wanted them.We spent two nights there.  And we rented a canoe and went canoeing from a lake down a lonely river.  The river went in a big loop and at one point we had to get out and portage the canoe over an earthen berm blocking the river. We had fun getting our upper bodies into action canoeing. The lake at Two Rivers campground
